Theory Seminar Series: Archispeak
Theme: Understanding
architectural theory through the investigation of terminology
PROJECT BRIEF
Investigate, analyse and
communicate the specific term you have been assigned in a final digital
projection and blog publication. Make use of interesting methods of analysis –
collage, animation, photography, sketches, film – the final presentation could,
or could not need oral narrative. The product is self defined, the purpose is
to gain expert knowledge of the word of choice and communicate its meaning and
your method to the class. The intention of the blog is to initiate discourse
within the class and to serve as an online catalogue of your process in
forthcoming projects for the year.
You have to take the
following into consideration:
- Use precedents to
explain your findings
- See references to other
terms
that share the same ideas and concepts
that share the same ideas and concepts
- Use a dictionary to
analyse the word – more than one would be better to get a clear understanding
of the
term.
- DRAW a lot – do not
write essays – this can be in collage format.
- Analyse precedents
through sketches as well – do not only make use of photographs and other
peoples
drawings. IF you use
these, you have to reference them correctly, using the Harvard method of
referencing.
- Investigate the word in
the context of your current ATD brief to extent your expertise and skills
particular to
the course theme.
You are encouraged to
create dynamic visual presentations – and not to emulate a static powerpoint
presentation.
All students are
required to keep a live theory journal (sketch and note book) and blog of each
archispeak presentation. This theory journal will form a part of the portfolio
exams at mid-year and year-end.
